Shiatzy Chen SS13

From ‘simple’ basic cut outs to 3 dimensional layered techniques and specialized symmetrical designs, Taiwanese designer Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia took inspiration from the ancient Chinese folk art, paper-cutting for her spring summer 2013 collection.

Silks, vivid colors, Eastern traditional transformed to Western moderns with touches of the twenties and sixties shimmering through the designs. Estonian top model Carmen Kass opens Shiatzy Chen’s “Perpetuality” Paris fashion week show at the InterContinental Paris-Le Grand Hôtel.

Soft sweeping calligraphy brush strokes characterize the Cheongsam short dresses in modern day style. Imperial cropped jackets with ¾ length short sleeves. Jumpsuits with colorful peacock prints while others showed sophisticated black with turquoise embroideries gracing the necklines. Pajama suits modernized with cropped pants.

A collection of 42 looks, a collection with attention to details and accessories that definitely completed Shiatzy Chen’s looks. Pearl closures adorned the tops and dresses, leather handheld bags with jade and silver handles, luxurious chic, high heels with bejeweled straps.

Simplicity, as far as cuts, ruled on the catwalk, the majority showing straight with the exception of the colorful peacock printed jumpsuit and dress that had a little flared movement around the hemline. Repetitive at times, but made up by the bold color palette showing bright yellows, turquoise, blue’s, pinks, ivory and black. Motifs consisted of florals, animals, humans and ritual events. Metallic beaded embroideries and Swarovski Elements shown on the silks, satins, organza’s and semi-sheer jacquard added extra sparkle on the luxurious fabrics Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia used for her spring summer collection 2013.
